Eligibility Requirements
Option 1
Standard Retirement Age
Age 65 with a minimum of 5 years of service with the American Samoa Government or its component units.
Option 2
Long Service Retirement
Age 55 with 30 years of service with the American Samoa Government or its component units.
How Your Benefits Are Calculated
Benefit Formula
Maximum 30 years of service counted for benefits
Highest Average Salary
Based on your highest average annual salary for any three consecutive years
Multiplier
Fixed 2% multiplier applied for each year of credited service
Years of Service
Total years of credited service with ASG (maximum 30 years counted)

Note: The minimum annual benefit is $600, regardless of the calculated amount.
Payment Options
When you retire, you can choose how to receive your monthly retirement benefit. This decision is permanent and cannot be changed after retirement.
Single Life Annuity
You receive the full calculated benefit amount monthly for your lifetime. Payments stop when you die.
Joint and Survivor Annuity
You receive a reduced monthly benefit that continues to your spouse after your death. The reduction is actuarially determined.
Steps to Normal Retirement
Verify Eligibility
Confirm you meet age and service requirements. Contact ASGERF if you have questions about your service credit.
Submit Application
Complete and submit your retirement application at least 60 days before your intended retirement date.
Choose Payment Option
Select between single life annuity or joint and survivor annuity. This decision cannot be changed after retirement.
Benefit Calculation
ASGERF will calculate your benefit based on your service record and salary history, then provide you with the exact benefit amount.
Begin Receiving Benefits
Your first retirement payment will be issued the month following your retirement date.
